Overview

Lelapa Camp is the most family-oriented camp within Madikwe Safari Lodge, designed to accommodate guests of all ages in a relaxed and welcoming safari environment. Its layout, suite mix, and shared spaces make it particularly well suited to families and multi-generational travel, while remaining equally comfortable for couples and small groups. The camp overlooks Madikwe Safari Lodge’s signature waterhole, which attracts a wide variety of wildlife throughout the day and evening and forms a central focal point for the camp’s main guest areas.

Accommodation: 12 luxury suites, each with a private deck and plunge pool, including 4 Family Suites designed for parents travelling with two children, accommodated in a separate bedroom.

Kopano Camp is an intimate camp within Madikwe Safari Lodge, designed for guests seeking a quieter and more private safari experience while still having access to the shared facilities of Lelapa Camp. With a limited number of suites and a refined camp layout, Kopano is particularly well suited to couples, honeymooners, solo travellers, and friends travelling together. Suitable for guests aged 16 and older, unless booked on an exclusive-use basis.

Accommodation: 4 luxury suites, each with a private deck and plunge pool.

Dithaba Camp is perched on a hillside, offering elevated panoramic views over the expansive plains of Madikwe Game Reserve. Its remote positioning and thoughtful layout create a sense of privacy and understated exclusivity, making it a strong choice for couples, small groups of friends, or older families seeking a more secluded safari experience. Though slightly removed, Dithaba Camp remains a short walk or drive from the other camps, and guests have full access to the shared facilities at Lelapa and Kopano Camps. Suitable for guests aged 16 and older, unless booked on an exclusive-use basis.

Accommodation: 4 luxury suites, each with a private deck and plunge pool. Dithaba Camp is frequently booked on an exclusive-use basis, which allows for tailored dining, dedicated service, and enhanced privacy.

Accommodation

Lelapa literally means ‘family’, and this is exactly how we want you to feel – there is no restriction in terms of age or generation. Many of us have kids of our own, so we know and understand what an unforgettable experience it is for children to be in the bush. Each of the 12 Suites is spacious, comfortable and ever respectful of the natural environment beyond.

Kopano directly translated means ‘small gathering’. The camp comprises just 4 Suites (each with private plunge pool) which share a magnificent common area. Fine dining to the hoot of an owl, the roar of a lion or the crazed whoop of a hyena is the stuff that dreams are made of. Note, children of 16 and older are welcome.

Dithaba Camp – Luxury Suite With only 4 Suites (each with private plunge pool), this Lodge is well suited to a group of friends or family members making it their own while on safari. Or for those who simply prefer the sound of nature and little else.

Activities

Game drives at Madikwe Safari Lodge last approximately three hours, departing twice daily in open 4×4 safari vehicles. Morning drives leave at first light into cool air and active wildlife. Afternoon drives return well after dark, with sundowners served in the field and a spotlight return leg where leopard, brown hyena, aardwolf, aardvark, bat-eared fox, and owls may be encountered. Drive times shift slightly with the seasons to make the most of the light.

For guests who want to slow down and experience the bush at a different pace, guided walking safaris offer a more intimate, sensory encounter with the reserve. On foot, the smaller details come alive: animal tracks, plant life, birdsong, and the textures of the landscape that drives often pass by. Walks take place close to camp or in carefully selected areas of the reserve, always led by a fully qualified trails guide with deep knowledge of Madikwe Game Reserves ecology.
